About Camp Cadet
History
Camp Cadet was formed in 1970 by Trooper Albert R. Vish, of the Pennsylvania State Police. Through his untiring efforts, this program became a reality. For over forty years, it has provided the inspiration for the establishment of other Camp Cadet Programs across Pennsylvania. The program was originally called the “Pennsylvania State Police Camp Cadet” and ran with funding provided by the community to the Pennsylvania State Police. Since 1970, Camp Cadet programs have been established in approximately 30 other counties in Pennsylvania. In 1991, Clinton County police officers, after two years of planning, hosted its first ever Camp Cadet program. Over the past twenty eight years, the program has graduated 2302 boys and girls making the Clinton County Police Camp Cadet Program a success for all that have been involved, especially the children who attended.
The Mission
The program is designed to bring a better understanding between the youth of Clinton County and its law enforcement officials. The goal of Camp Cadet is to provide an enjoyable experience that will be remembered by all Cadets who attend, and to create that lasting impression that police officers are their friends. Camp Cadet provides a six-day experience for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 15. They are exposed to law enforcement activities, and provided with an opportunity to get to know police officers on a personal basis.
